[ He still hopes that someday it will be easy. After he's gone, after Louis is gone (much further off than he's assuming, obviously). Someday there will be teenage boys who don't cry in confessional because they looked too long at another boy in a locker room and felt a forbidden stir that made them feel hellbound, and they won't have to grow into men who lie to their mothers about working too much to meet nice girls. Someday men like them will be able to enlist for honest reasons, not in a fit of despair over wanting what they can't have. They'll be honest with themselves, and their families, and their lovers, and it won't result in their entire lives crumbling around them. Someday.

Louis and Tim and Hawk, and probably this French lover to some degree, weren't so lucky, but someday. Right now, at least, they have the stories they have, and if they were to pick through each others with a fine-toothed comb there would be a lot in common, he's sure. The French lover and moving to Europe sounds thrilling and adventurous enough to keep Tim's rapt attention. ]

You say He took them because...they found out? That you were with a man?

[ Tim's family doesn't know. They can't know. He loves them, and they love him too, but he knows already that it would be too much for them to accept. They'd be praying for him instead of with him, and he wouldn't be able to bear it. At least, that's what he thought before. Now, knowing what he does about the future, that progress is possible and the fight is winnable, he could change his mind. ]
