He could probably guess that some of this is subterfuge (and would be correct, naturally), but it’s still mostly the sort of one distinguished servant taking account of others’ work.

However, that can’t be it, since just from what little Heinrix has said so far, he thinks that he would absolutely know if he’d been found out. So, it’s more metaphorical…?
