Sometimes I wish I didn't.

[Unfortunately, most of the people she surrounded herself with back in Hawkins never seemed to be as interested in sharing themselves as she was.]

What's she like?

She is a gentle person. Lost to dreams, most of the time, but when she is present she has the clearest mind you will ever meet in anyone. Clever, under all of it, and a good mother.

I miss her. My niece and nephew as well.

Do you have siblings?

She sounds amazing. The two of you are lucky to have each other.

I have a younger brother. He's sixteen now, I think.

[Steve hadn't mentioned Bobby or her parents when he'd told her what was happening in Hawkins, so she's just going to assume that they managed to get out before things went completely crazy.]

I miss him every day.

I miss mine just as much. Family can be so precious, you understand, especially when relations have been fraught for so long.

Do you like him? Your brother? You miss him and perhaps love him, these are given to an older sister, but does he please you?

I'm sorry. I'd say that I hoped for the rest of your family to show up so you didn't have to miss them, but I'm not sure I'd wish this place on anyone.

I do, actually. I think he might be my favorite person. I'm not sure I'm ever going to see him again.

[ her favourite person. who is aemond's favourite? would vhagar count, or should it only be humans and the like? his favourite would be aegon, he thinks. however horrible that sounds even to his own ears. ]

They are not all terrible. They're simply complex, our relations with one another. Too much history, too much pain buried under the wounds we've given ourselves.

What is your brother Bobby like? Tell me.

That's just how family is. Sometimes it's hard to live with them, but you can't really live without them.

[Except she's been doing a pretty decent job of living without them for the past year or so.]

He's smart and funny. Effortlessly charming and really good at talking his way out of trouble, which is probably a good thing because he's also really good at getting into it. He always knew what to say when our mother was being a nightmare.

[ like aegon, then. troublesome as much as he is winsome, clever and charming but putting his talents to frivolous pursuits. the struggle of having brothers, aemond thinks. ]

Perhaps you should leash your brother for a time. Keep him still that way, so that he might not hurt himself along the way. My brother Aegon is about the same, though I do not think he and your brother would share many interests.

He has fondness for drink, our Aegon.

I wonder how effective that actually is for keeping people out of trouble.

[It's probably not his intention, but she's immediately reminded of spotting the occasional parent with a young child wearing a leash backpack at the mall, and the sheer randomness of the memory makes her smile.]

Bobby liked playing video games and watching horror movies. I'm not sure if your brother would enjoy either of those things. We used to go bowling too, sometimes.

A leash? It works well enough, if the leash is made well for its wearer. Some work best with a cage, some with a leash — it takes some cleverness to know which one best suits a man.

Or a young child, I suppose.

...What is bowling?

I'll keep that in mind. I used to babysit a kid whose parents insisted that the only way to get him to behave in public was making him wear a backpack leash, and I guess it worked well enough for them but I never actually needed it.

[Then again, she only saw him for a handful of hours at a time, a couple of times a week.]

Bowling is when you take turns rolling a heavy ball down a lane to see how many pins you can knock down each time. There are ten pins and you usually get two rolls per turn.
