the last time i was in a game was literally over a decade ago (young guns look away) and i've put off trying being in a game again during that timespan for a variety of reasons, from not totally vibing with the concepts to finding them too high-lift — i'm so grateful saltburnt exists because it has been such a wonderful re-entry point into the world of games and into getting to play a lot more with people i already love as well as with brand new friends i've been so happy to make!

it's been so clear with every new event and even every little question we've peppered y'all mods with that so much care and thought has gone into making this game; i might be the first but i certainly won't be the last person to bring up just how wild werewolf was. again, i've been out of the game (pun notwithstanding) for a long time, but i've never seen a plot run on that scale before, and it was so, so, so much fun to be a part of, especially seeing how much we as players could interact with what was going on and how accommodating the mods were to all the bullshit we wanted to do! i feel like i'm constantly seeing, for lack of a better term, quality of life improvements and little nudges to make things easier and more fun for all of us.

i'm also so grateful for this wonderful player base and all of the weird and wild cr i've been lucky enough to have, but i'll save my hollering on that subject for individual comments. it's been such a good time getting to play around in this sandbox, and i can't wait to get up to more trouble in 2025!

i just wanted to take a sappy and overly sensitive minute to really thank everyone who's joined and been a part of saltburnt so far. really, the construction of saltburnt was a huge group effort on my plurk list last year with a lot of different ideas coming from a bunch of different people in and around march-june of last year, so genuinely the game we have now wouldn't even exist without a handful of people who held my hands and offered up ideas for it. i feel really lucky that a lot of people came to offer their excitement and support in the early days of saltburnt — i was always extremely anxious that i would put all this effort into a game no one had any interest in, and the real nerve-wracking reality that i might open a game no one wanted any part of was veeeeery nearly enough to not make me open it at all.

but! i did, and i'm honestly shocked by the response. i feel really lucky people are willing to put faith in me to bring new and interesting events and mechanics to the game — i feel lucky i have a group of understanding people in my corner who are willing to work with me, offer ideas, and support me through my anxieties. i've always seen myself as a very flaky person, and maybe i shouldn't admit this but i was almost positive at the beginning that i would maybe post an event or two before the game died down, or i missed a deadline and completely lost faith in myself to keep it running. it's really not an exaggeration to say that this is the longest running and most involved project i think i've ever undertaken, and while it feels like a cheesy thing to end on and say "i'm so proud of myself", i kind of am, because i've already surpassed my own worst beliefs about myself.

i'm additionally also really proud of everyone in game — new friends and old, i think you're all fantastic writers with the most interesting concepts and storylines, and i've had a really rewarding time writing and planning and having fun with all of you. thank you all genuinely for joining the game and being responsive and active and indulging me and the fucked up freaky themes that i love to write. i can't stress my gratitude enough so i will end on a big fat i love & appreciate you guys before i get too shy about it ok 🧡

gonna keep it short and sweet for my sanity but here we go:

I haven't had many games that are easy, breezy, beautiful and that I can check in and out of without additional stress or self-induced pressure but this is one of them. The mods have put such thought and effort into the structure while also keeping it fun! And the playerbase is second to none. I have been delighted to be a part of it and if I have any regrets it's not getting to now you all and snatching more CR.

here's hoping I can manage that in the coming year. xx Happy holidays fam, hope you all get everything you desire both for the season and in life.

ellie, my ellie, thank u for enabling me and also making the unhinged, cheating sapphics of the year possible. it’s always a pleasure to rp with you for so many reasons. not least your stunning turns of phrase, character specific visuals & metaphors. you always write what’s true to a character, not necessarily what’s easy/pleasing/will get the highest ‘approval’ from another character, and that actually makes your rp ten times more interesting and consistent for a character/relationship as a result!!!

you are also so proactive in coming up with ideas to develop characters and relationships — it makes it that much more fun, easy, and satisfying to achieve deep cr.

i’ve had the pleasure of playing against so many of your girls and each one is wonderful (read: deranged) in their own special way. you play such a range of women distinctly and it’s truly impressive!! all this on top of being a lovely, collaborative person oocly. thanks for the laughs, cries, and girldivorce in 2024 ♥
