I had to make my own, I guess. Or to decide and to accept the fallout. But failures by nature have more room to do that. That's the glory of underperformance, or only being good at things that aren't as consequential.

It makes their interest like a match. Burns away quickly, but its flame still stings. And then there's nothing left.

What does one even do in that circumstance? With the wrong attention. With all the little burns.

Personally, I became immune a long time ago. If the person is unlucky enough, perhaps I'll be in the mood to burn them harder.

Does it ever matter to you if they're sorry? I have this trouble with that. I don't always accept apology very well, I guess.

It matters to me when they're not. When they think they are above the harm.

And that's because an apology needs to mean something. Empty words are just another slight. You can tell when that's the case, can't you?

I think about that a lot, how you can't make someone sorry. Well, I can't, anyway. I'd believe it of you, because you see inside people better than I do.

But I can, I think. Out here especially, there's a lot of fake apologies.
Fake smiles, too. But complaining about the peccadilloes of the ton is probably the oldest whine in the book.
