In these pictures they look like they could be the same guy, though. Who cares if one's from the 40s?

[ tipping her head back and laughing as shauna's foot connects with her shin, but she doesn't retaliate other than to say, ] I mean, I can think of better ways to release tension, but I'll rub your shoulders if that's what you really want.

[the gayest thing you've maybe ever said, melissa. but shauna's still smiling, still in that soft, vulnerable place she only reveals once every so often, once in a blue moon, chin propped in her hands.]

[ she feels gaslit by this discussion. and also incredibly gay. this is giving her flashbacks to middle school where she'd have to randomly pick a guy to "have a crush" on so she didn't seem weird, and somehow always managed to make it seem weird anyway. ]

[ whatever. whatever!!! melissa leans forward and puts her own chin in her hands. ]

Me? [shauna makes her big doe eyes even bigger, her mouth opening in a soft rounded "oh" of surprise.] Why would I ever fuck with you? I've never told a lie in my entire life!

[it even sounds stilted, shauna still the sort of terrible liar that not even over a year of survival-focused silence can snuff out.

that gets a quirked eyebrow, shauna tilting her head so her cheek smushes into her palm.] Oh yeah? Maybe we should play a different game, then. Ever play "seven minutes in heaven"?

Oh, um... no, actually!

[ she's sure shauna is shocked to hear that. shocked! does shauna know she was melissa's first kiss ever? at knifepoint. wow. ]

[stunned. shocked. flabbergasted. though -- who knows, melissa had barely registered beyond "gen's weird friend who shot jackie that really actually decent pass-up one time". she could've had a whole bunch of kissing going on behind the scenes.

but right now, shauna knows about all of it. all the kissing. because she's involved in it.]

Oh, it's really complicated. Lots of rules. Yeah, you should take notes, for sure.

Oh, I remember. [grinning, wrinkling her nose with it as she stands, sliding a hand across the card table they'd been playing on and dancing her fingers over melissa's hand.] You hit the ground running.

[ grinning back, mel stretches her leg out under the table so she can slide her foot up the length of shauna's calf. footsie ]

[shauna mimics melissa's grinning tone, squirming a little at the footsie, wiggling her hand under the one settled on the table, lacing their fingers.] Nerd. C'mon.

[a tug, coaxing -- she's made up her mind and she's impatient, like leading mel away from the fire before dinner's even finished, away from chores, whenever shauna gets the itch.]

sure, melissa didn't get to apply to any colleges at all, but she definitely wasn't going to be getting early acceptance to a fucking ivy. maybe a nice state school. like rutgers.

at shauna's tug, she stands up, eager to follow shauna wherever she'll lead her. the fact that nobody's going to complain later that she ~didn't finish their laundry~ or ~left them alone to boil the water all by themselves~ makes this even better. ]
