Is that what she told you? She didn't give a reason or anything?

Well...I know some of it. I saw during the museum fiasco. I didn't want to pry.

Well, what exactly do you know?

[holyposition]

I know what happened with your dead. What you resorted to, to survive.

That has nothing to do with it.

[ well... maybe not nothing, but it's not the main factor. ]

Shauna's the one who ran away and refuses to talk to us. And we don't all hate her. It's complicated.

I can't imagine how it wouldn't be complicated.

Maybe I can help?

... Help how?

Mediate? Maybe it would help to have someone who wasn't there. It wouldn't be as emotional for an outside observer, so they could look at it more rationally.

Not to say that any of you aren't being rational. Just, you know. Sometimes it feels good. Like confession.

I would love to see someone try and come up with a rational explanation for what Shauna's problem is, actually.

Well, that kind of tone isn't very productive.

[ an offended scoff! i mean, yeah, he's right, but!!! ]

Okay, let me lay out a scenario for you and you tell me how you'd feel.

Imagine you show up here, and your girlfriend is here too. But she remembers more than you do from back home. Not a lot, just a month or so. But she promises you, she swears, that everything is fine and the two of you are doing great and not to worry. With me so far?

She told you everything is going great? While you were stranded in the woods eating each other?

[temujackie]

Great being a relative term, I guess... But anyway, after two months of being stupid and clueless and happy with her, you fall into one of those fucked up coma things and you remember everything she does. And actually, back in the woods, you guys have been broken up the entire time, and when that happened she tried to shoot you.

And then you wake up back here, and she's already gone, because she ran off as soon as she realized you were going to wake up knowing she lied to you. And now apparently she's going around telling people that you hate her but conveniently not telling them why.

[holyposition]

People run away when they're scared. Maybe she didn't tell you that you broke up because she regrets it.

That doesn't excuse the lying, obviously. But why would she want to shoot you?

[temujackie]

Yeah, maybe. [ shauna said as much, minus the being scared part, but it still doesn't feel good. ]

We got in a fight. She said some fucked up things to me, I called her crazy, she pointed the gun at me, I dared her to do it, and she did.

[holyposition]

I'm sure in a situation like yours, people say a lot of things they don't mean. Being in charge of a sinking ship is a lot of pressure. On top of losing a baby and eating her best friend.

Not to excuse shooting you. You didn't deserve that. You don't even have to forgive her, but she's not hiding in the woods to spite you.

[temujackie]

Yeah, I get that, but she could apologize and say she didn't mean it. But she won't. And I know she's not hiding in the woods to spite me, she's doing it to spite herself. But she's hurting Jackie's feelings. So... I don't know.

She won't because it isn't true, or because it's hard for her to be vulnerable?

[temujackie]

Both, probably.

[holyposition]

I have a partner I'm kind of on the outs with right now. He's the same way. He does stupid things that hurt people because he's afraid. Being vulnerable means that you could be hurt. It's hard for some people.

Do you think you could hear her out, if Harry and I can coax her out of the woods?

[temujackie]

Look, I get what you're saying, but I don't think you totally understand the situation. But if she wants to talk, I'll listen.

[holyposition]

Did you leave something out I should know?

I'll see what I can do.

Not on purpose. It's just complicated.
